LOCAL HONORARY CHAIR
Jamie Subchyshyn, 2019 Gutsy Walk Local Honorary Chair
My name is Jamie Subchyshyn and I am thrilled to be the Honorary Chairperson for Prince Albert’s 2019 Gutsy Walk. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in June of 2000 when I was only nine years old. Several months of severe fatigue, fevers, vomiting, stomach pain, joint pain, and many other undesirable symptoms led to my diagnosis. Since 2000 I have been on seven different medications to treat my disease. I have also gone through countless tests and medical procedures. My journey with Crohn’s has been one of perseverance and hope.
My disease has been the cause of a lot of challenges throughout my life. On the other hand, it has also taught me a lot of valuable lessons and contributed to the determined, resilient person that I have become. Despite having Crohn’s, I have completed a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree and have a wonderful career as an elementary educator. I truly love my job and I feel immensely grateful that I am able to spend my life working in such an amazing profession.
In July of 2018 I was introduced to a new medication. After many failures with other medications, this seems to be the one that has turned my life around. I am happy to say that, at 28 years old, I am in the best state of health I have ever known and I am getting healthier every day. When I am not in my classroom, I enjoy doing yoga, going for walks, paddle boarding, reading and going on outdoor adventures.
Crohn’s has played a significant role in my life. It is my dream to see this disease become history. Please help me make my dream come true by joining me, my family and my friends for the Gutsy Walk on June 2, 2019.
