LOCAL HONORARY CHAIR
Olivia, 2018 Gutsy Walk Local Honorary Chair

Hi,

My name is Olivia. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in February of 2016. I was 12 years old and suddenly became ill without warning. After diagnosis I was very lucky to have been admitted and treated at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton for 16 days. MY GI specialist trialed a feeding tube without success so I was then given a short 3 month treatment of steroids to help reduce the inflammation. I have been receiving biologic treatments for over 1 year now and this has truly given back my quality of life. With eliminating a few items from my diet like dairy, tomato sauce, corn and high fiber foods along with the biologic treatments I am able to live a very normal life.

My future looks bright and I look forward to starting high school next year, focusing on my drama classes and acting in plays. When I grow up I want to have a successful career as maybe a Doctor and have a house full of dogs.

I think it’s important to participate in the Gutsy Walk to help bring awareness so money can be raised to help scientists continue to develop new treatments and hopefully a vaccine.

Spread the word to your friends and family to join me this year in the Gutsy Walk. This disease is rapidly becoming an epidemic and everyone needs to “Have guts to make it stop!”

Thank-You,

Olivia
