Raven, 2019 Gutsy Walk Local Honorary Chair

My name is Raven Hunt. I am honoured to represent Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, as the Grey Bruce Honorary Chair.

I am 22 years old, and I like to think of myself as an inspiring, strong, healthy young lady. I work full-time in an administrative role at the local power plant, and run an event consulting business on the side, of which I am the founder & director. I stay active as a competitive adult figure skater, and volunteer for the CanSkate program. I enjoy cooking, reading and always find myself learning new things.

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis (UC) 5 years ago, at the young age of 17. I’ve learned, and grown so much since being diagnosed. I’ve learned more about myself, my body, and learned so much from the wonderful support system that surrounds me. Although it has been a rollercoaster ride, I’ve done my best to enjoy the ride. From experiencing many hospital visits, doctors’ appointments, and even many different types of treatment, I’ve truly grown as a person.

Since my diagnosis, I’ve experienced many side effects of the various medications including a rare skin condition called pyoderma gangrenosum that causes large painful sores (ulcers), to develop on your skin which is a result of an autoimmune disease. In 2017 I lost my hair as a result of stress and medication. Purchased a wig, and wore it for months until hair regrowth reoccurred.

In November 2018 I became a part of the Grey Bruce Gusty team to raise awareness, and to help make a difference nation-wide for our Crohn’s & colitis family.

Thank you for joining us at the 2019 Gutsy Walk! Together we can make a difference.
