Gillian, 2019 Gutsy Walk Local Honorary Chair

Hi, my name is Gillian and I am excited to be an honorary chair for the Halifax Gutsy Walk!

I am 15 years old and in grade 10 French Immersion. I am a competitive dancer, a Girl Guide, a good friend and a lover of cats. I like science, shopping and being outside. I enjoy cooking and swimming and travelling to new places. And I have Crohn’s disease.

I found out that I have IBD when I was 8 years old. I had been feeling sick for a few months; it took a lot of tests and appointments to find out that I have Crohn’s disease. Now that I am in remission, I feel so much better! I try not to let my Crohn’s get in the way of doing the things I love.

I have been lucky to meet lots of other kids with IBD at Camp Guts and Glory – I have been going there for 5 years now and it is always fun to meet up with my friends from around the Maritimes.

This year I will be participating in my 6th Gutsy Walk. It has always been important to me to give back to help other kids who are living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
