LOCAL HONORARY CHAIR

Gerry (In Memory), 2019 Gutsy Walk Local Honorary Chair

Slicing through the choppy waves of the Atlantic Ocean, Gerry felt at
home. Born in Ontario, Gerry moved to the Halifax area two years ago
and fell in love with the lifestyle and landscapes of the East Coast.
The ocean called to him — you could tell from the ear-to-ear smile he
wore at the helm of his sailboat, as his two dogs Nitro and Gully
scampered around the deck.

He was a man of many attributes — intelligent, articulate, confident
and business-minded. All of these traits contributed to his
professional success. He was a skilled conversationalist and debater,
his favourite topics being politics and current affairs. But Gerry
also possessed an endearing childlike nature that was punctuated by
his love for candy, his playful sense of humour and his fun-loving
nature.

Step by step, he achieved every goal he set in life, including
obtaining a pilot’s licence, learning to sail, and marrying his
soulmate. Together they trotted the globe, checking off bucket list
items along the way.

Gerry was diagnosed with Crohn's disease six years ago, but he never
let it affect his quality of life. He passed away in Jaipur, India
while visiting an orphanage he and his wife sponsored. His passing was
sudden and unexpected, and we all miss him deeply. He was generous,
mild-mannered, patient, jovial — and brave to the very end.

In memory of Gerry, let's work towards a cure for Crohn's and Colitis.
Together, we’ll make it stop. For life.
